GOT THE SCHOLARSHIP!!!!

I just received an email stating that I have been offered the ADB Scholarship. This was totally unexpected since my undergrad record is pathetic to say the least. This was something I wasn't even praying for since I didn't want to waste a prayer on something I thought I had no chance of getting. I guess it was my GMAT score that did the trick. First the admission scare and now this. Looks like the man up there has been on my case. There is a catch to the scholarship though, if I accept it I have to agree to return to my home county after completion of studies and am expected to contribute to the economic and social development of my home country. Something which I had no plans on doing :P. I still feel that its more of a gift to my parents then a recognition of my abilities. They won't have to worry about my finances and it will guarantee my return after two years. He sure know how to kill two birds with one stone.

I've started planning on how to spend all the money I'll be saving because of the scholarship, first i'm gettin a kick ass laptop, followed by a sexy cell phone :D

At the back of my mind I have this feeling that some disastrous event in going to occur in my life which will nullify all the good things that have taken place during the last few months. In the past its always happened that way and if history repeats itself its gonna be the last straw.

Reading Habits

I had been spending a lot of time the last few days sitting online, waiting for someone to come on MSN and eventually end up having a conversation which went something like this

Me: hey
Other Person: hey
Me: what r u up to
Other Person: nothin much u
Me: same here
Other Person: hmmm
Me: hmmm

So I decided to catch up with my reading and after asking a few people for recommendations I picked up The Da Vinci Code. It's been almost 8 years since I bought a book not related to academics. After this I plan to get Map for Lost Lovers. I would welcome any more recommendations. Want to get in as much as possible before I head back to school. The last stuff I recall reading was The Crow Eaters by Bapsi Sidhwa and Overload by Arthur Hailey during my O/A level days.

By the way, while I was typing this post a friend sent me this link to an article related to The Da Vinci Code in case any one is interested.

Get Involved!

Saw an extremely heart breaking news story on the BBC this morning about a little girl who lost her right limb when she stepped on a landmine. Almost brought me to tears. I looked around on the net for ways in which I could help and came across the AAM (Adopt-A-Minefield) website which listed some practical ways in which people could get involved. I hope some time in my life i'm able to do more and make a real difference.

Get-Together

This weekend we had a small get-together at BBQ Tonight with some old school friends. Reminiscing about the O/A level days and catching up on the latest developments in each others lives. Everyone seems to have done well for themselves and starting to settle down now. Met one of the guys after 6 years, turns out he's married and has a 9 month old daughter. We were discussing how all of us have changed over the years and the common consensus was that I was the only one who has remained as I was 8 years ago. Now I am not sure if that is good or bad. One positive aspect could be that since I can pass off as an eighteen year old I could date a 15 year old without any eye brows being raised.
